The Associates of the Training Institute for Mental Health was formed in 1969. Primarily concerned with bringing greater awareness of contemporary mental health issues to the community at large, professional and non-professional alike, the Associates sponsors a variety of educational programs such as lectures, panel discussions, and film showings. Couples Therepy Program
The Couples Therapy Program offers one and two year certificates in Couples Treatment to mental health professionals who are interested in improving their clinical skills. Training consists of a sequence of seminars focused on the psychodynamic aspects of interpersonal and intersubjective interactions along with recognition of individual diagnostic issues. The relevance of cognitive and systems techniques is also considered. Basic training includes: Issues in Couples Therapy, Supervision of Couples Therapy, Short and Long Term Couples Therapy, and Readings in Theory and Practice of Couples Therapy: Advanced Training beyond the one and two year certificates is also available.

The Psychoanalytic Society
The Psychoanalytic Society of the Training Institute was founded in 1992 to provide graduates with opportunities for professional development. Since that time, the Society has sponsored lectures and workshops given by distinguished visiting speakers, offered study groups and hosted collegial social gatherings. The Society is committed to deepening and expanding our mission to promote psychoanalytic education and collegiality amongst TI alumni. We are interested in the needs of our members and encourage suggestions for new programs.

Mozart at 250 - His Mind and Music: An Exploration of Genius
Presenter: Richard Kogan, M.D.
- Richard Kogan has a distinguished career both as a concert pianist and as a psychiatrist. He has been praises for his eloquent, compelling, and exquisite playing by the New York Times and the Boston Globe wrote that Kogan has somehow managed to excel at the world's two most demanding professions. He has gained international renown for his groundbreaking work on the connection between music and healing and on how the medical and psychiatric illnesses of composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Tchaikovsky and Gershwin influenced their creative output. Dr. Kogan is a graduate of the Julliard School of Music Pre-college and of Harvard College and Harvard Medical School. He completed his psychiatry residency training at NYU. He currently has a private practice of psychiatry in New York City and is affiliated with the Weil-Cornell Medical School as Director of is Human Sexuality Program.
