Welcome

In view of the current turbulent social climate for people of color, individuals of varied gender expression, sexual orientation, and diverse religious affiliation, The Training Institute for Mental Health stands with these groups and the diverse contributions they offer culture and society at large.

About Us

For more than 50 years, the Training Institute for Mental Health (TI), a 503(c)(3) nonprofit, has provided affordable, high-quality therapy services in New York City.

Our therapists are compassionate, caring, and expert at what they do. Our sliding scale fees are designed to fit people's budgets, not strain them. TI also hosts an acclaimed training program for mental health professionals in psychoanalysis, psychoanalytic psychotherapy, group and couples therapy.

Highly respected in the field, TI is chartered by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York.

Training

The Training Institute for Mental Health offers training programs for professionals who wish to enhance their understanding and deepen their skill in individual psychoanalysis, couples therapy, group therapy, and the supervision of the psychoanalytic process.

Our training encompasses drive theory, object relations theory, ego psychology, self psychology, and relational psychology. We believe that every clinician has their own style and brings unique strengths to this work.

Our goal is not to mold a student into our version of an analyst, but to help each person find their own voice within this broad and ever-evolving field. Classes offer an in depth examination of psychoanalytic theories, which is combined with the clinical experiences of our students and faculty.
